Short Fiction

Walk well, My brother.

There is an excerpt from the short story "walk well, my brother" this story is about a man named Charlie Lavery who is flying over the Arctic because he was heading for his base in Yellowknife. His plane crashes and lands up north. Lavery does not like Eskimo people, unfortunately for him where he crashed is heavily populated with many Inuit people. He comes across a woman named Konala who he claims is "useless" and has absolutely no respect for her. Charlie later runs into trouble in the short story and Konala is there to help him, quickly his feelings towards her changes, and a large amount of respect is built. This excerpt exemplifies respect for others because Konala save charlies life and his he quickly gains alot of respect for not only her but also her people.

"The sick woman trudged wearily across a waste of sodden muskeg to climb a gravel ridge and halt beside the unconscious body of Charlie Lavery?

squatting beside him she used her curved knife to cut away the useless remnants of his leather boots, then wrapped his torn and bloody feet in compresses of wet sphagnum moss. slipping of her parka, she spread it over his tattered jacket to protect him from the flies. her fingers on his emaciated and insect bitten flesh were tender and sure. Later she built a fire, and when Lavery opened his eyes it was to find himself under a rude skin shelter with with a can of fish broth being pressed lightly against his lips."
